. Dirty Campaign Advertising Is a Fact of Life in American Politics Who Sets The Standards: In any conflict, whether verbal or violent, he who has the lowest ethical and moral standards sets the tone and level of the conflict. For example, if your opponent uses dirty, political-campaign, ads and you don't, you get to be called "the loser." The McCain Example: John McCain demonstrated this for us in the 2000 Republican primary campaign. Senator McCain refused to use negative advertising and requested that George Bush do likewise. Bush refused and bombarded McCain with numerous deceptive, slanderous ads. When McCain's campaign, "bleeding and losing" and in self-defense, came back with a negative add, Senator McCain was labeled a flip-flopper and a hypocrite. With sewer-level advertising, Bush defeated McCain. The Typical Campaign: A typical political campaign usually goes something like this: It starts out with both sides playing clean, high-level politics. As the campaign progresses, it becomes obvious that one side is significantly ahead of the other. The loser reaches the point where he decides that the only way to win is to go into sewer-level politics. He does so, and we end up with character-assassination, cesspool politics that completely ignores the real issues. . |

. Here's a mild example of a negative campaign ad. We say it's mild because all the statements are true. Like most campaign rhetoric, this example is spin-doctor truth in that it speaks loudly to one side and completely ignores the other. It's also highly bias and extremely one sided, but it illustrates how, with only a few words, one can take an intelligent, honorable and respected United States Senator and make him out to be a dangerous, misguided old fool who votes for the money interests and not for the people. Nicotine Vote Nicotine Vote ...
In the 2008 Presidential election, Barack Obama has two choices -- stay clean and be the loser -- or play sewer-level politics at the McCain-Bush level. If you have any alternatives, we'd love to hear about them.
From a speech by Barack Obama, Los Vegas Nevada, May 27, 2008 George W. Bush helped John McCain raise $3.5 million at a behind-closed-doors fundraiser with 500 Republican donors. No cameras were permitted. That's a lot of money, and it will be used to attack Senator Obama and make the case to continue George Bush's failed policies. . |
